On March 2nd and 3rd thousands of NYC Vegetarians, Vegans, and the Veg-curious came out to the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival to sample, purchase, and learn about vegan food and lifestyle. Add in some animal rights organizations and farmed animal sanctuaries, the NYC Veg Food Fest is sure to be a hot spot for our favorite vegan super stars (every vegan is a super star to us)! That means, that in this spectacular 100th episode of Vegan Radio we hit the mother-load on interviews!!
Episode 95 features an interview with Farm Sanctuary co-founder Gene Baur and animal caretaker Susie Coston. Farm Sanctuary is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, and Gene & Susie share some of their thoughts and insights, as well as stories of animals.
Our 66th show is bound to go down in obscure history books as "The Vegan Paul Show". We feature an interview with one of our heroes in the movement, Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The interview was conducted by Derek at the 2008 Farm Sanctuary Hoe Down. Sea Shepherd is an organization committed to the eradication of pirate whaling, poaching, shark finning, unlawful habitat destruction, and violations of established laws in the World's oceans.
Our 58th show is a bit all over the place, which our listeners might not find unusual. We start with an interview with Molly Lorenz, who has organized a group of vegan artists and craftspeople on the web site Etsy called Vegan Etsy. Molly herself uses the site to sell dog treats at her shop Emma's K9 Kitchen.
Our 57th show features interviews with two prominent animal rights activists who are involved in fun events happening in NYC on Sunday May 18th, 2008. The first is Pamela Rice who has put together the first ever Veggie Pride Parade which will march through the meat district and feature vegan rocker Cheryl Hill and a marriage ceremony officiated by Vegan Radio favorite Dave Warwak.
Our 52nd show falls on Valentine's Day this year, and we feature an interview with the author of My Sweet Vegan: passionate about dessert, Hannah Kaminsky. Hannah is only 19 years old and attends UMass college in Amherst, making her a local vegan celebrity! Hannah was noticed by a publishing company due to the popularity and quality of her BitterSweet blog.
Show 26 features talk about turkeys with Susie Coston from Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glenn, NY. Susie is the caretaker of the hundreds of animals who reside at Farm Sanctuary, and knows each one by name. With the turkey holocaust known as Thanksgiving coming up we thought it would be a good idea have Susie remind us how amazing turkeys are and why we shouldn't eat them.
Show 21 features an interview with Peter Singer and Jim Mason about the new book they co-authored, The Way We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter. Derek met up with Peter and Jim at the Farm Sanctuary Hoe Down, one of Derek's favorite AR events.
This week's show features Interviews from Farm Sanctuary's Farm Animal Forum including Gene Bauston from Farm Sanctuary, Bruce Freidrich from PeTA, Karen Dawn from Dawn Watch, and Lauren Ornellas from Compassion Over Killing. We also have musical guest Arjuna Greist. In the news we have breaking news about the banning of Foie Gras in Chicago, protests in Oxford, meat theives in Massachusetts, the world's oldest vegetarian in China, and beans that won't make you fart!
